If I crochet a motif from another pattern into somthing else like a poncho to a dress can i share my pattern?

I want to use the daisy motif from this: http://www.jessica-tromp.nl/crochet_patterns/crochet%20top%20ga.jpg and make a dress out of it. if i wanted to post the pattern online would that be infringement

Crochet Hat Patterns beginners hat cropped Your Answers To Questions About Crochet Poncho Patterns

admin answers:

I would say no. Somebody owns the copyright to that pattern and instructions. Taking the pattern and making something more out of it for yourself would be fine – but wouldn’t make it yours to share. You could share your pattern in part but give credit to the square – like “I used the square from . . . ” without reproducing it and without infringing on the rights of the owners of the pattern.

Childrens crochet poncho, need help reading the pattern?

Using C1 make 72ch, join with sl st to 1st ch to form ring. 1ch, 1dc, 2ch, 1dc in each of next 35 ch, 1dc, 2ch, 1dc in next ch, sl st to 1st dc.
I understand the first part up until 1dc, 2ch, 1dc in next ch, sl st to 1st dc.
Sorry i made a mistake.
c1 make 72ch, join with sl st to form ring.
1ch, 1dc, 2ch, 1dc in same st as sl st, 1 dc in each of next 35ch, 1dc, 2ch, 1dc in next ch, sl st to 1st dc.
what happens with other 32 stitches?

Round2; 3ch, 1tr in 2-ch loop, 2ch, 1 tr in same loop, 1 tr in ea of next 2 dc.

I got this patter from spotlight in a book and its not online to see if it is a printed mistake.

admin answers:

Not sure how much you know, so I’ll explain each stitch, just in case.

C1 refers to color 1. So:
Using Color 1 chain 72, slip stitch (insert hook into first chain, pull through all loops on hook) to form ring. Chain 1, {double crochet (yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2, yarn over, pull through 2), chain 2, double crochet (insert hook into same chain as first double crochet)} all in the same stitch as the slip stitch, then double crochet into the next 35 chains, then {double crochet, chain 2, double crochet} into the next chain.

About the other 32… Were there symbols in there, maybe indicating to repeat? I would just double crochet into them.

Chain 3, treble crochet (yarn over twice, insert hook into chain 2 space, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2, yarn over, pull through 2, yarn over pull through 2), chain 2, treble crochet in same chain 2 space, then 2 treble crochet in each double crochet, with treble crochet, chain 2, treble crochet in any chain 2 space

I hope this helps

Mark Your Answers To Questions About Crochet Patterns For Beginners Baby

Mark asks…

Can someone explain these crochet instructions in plain english?

I guess you can say a beginner in crocheting with patterns. I have made three blankets but simply using a single crochet stitch throughout. I now want to try a pattern (it is a #411 Bernat Softee Baby Double Diamond Crochet Blanket if anyone is curious–says it’s for beginners) and am totally lost with the instructions given (I know what the abbreviations mean, I guess I just haven’t learned how to read them). Can someone interpret this set of instructions for me in the hopes that I will better be able to read the rest of my pattern?

It is a motif…. 1st rnd: Ch3 (counts as dc). [3 dc. (Ch2. 4 dc) 3 times] in ring. Ch 2. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

I appreciate all your help!

admin answers:

The ch 3 is supposedly a dc so do 3 dc and a ch 2, 4 dc ch 2 In other words you will have a total of 4 dc and a 2 ch between them This is what it will lok like with The “|” as a dc and the “-” as the chain but will be in a circle
| | | | – - | | | | – - | | | | — | | | | – - with the last 2 – - conneting it to a ring.

Maybe you could buy a small piece of cute fabric (unisex), cut it in the shape of a bib, and then sew on some cute crochet edging. Leave a chain tail at both edges in the back so she can tie a loose bow around her baby’s neck. Just a thought!

Ruth Your Answers To Questions About Crochet Patterns For Beginners Baby

Ruth asks…

Need help for beginner crochet?

I am currently working on a baby afghan right now and I am just a beginner. The pattern is level 2 difficult but I’m having a baby and really loved the blanket it shows. I’m having a hard time with the directions however. It says Ch 126, which I have done, but the next step for Row 1 says Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across: 125 sc; ch 3 (counts as dc on next row now and throughout), turn. So I do a Sc in the 2nd chain, and continue to do so in every two chains? Or do I just do the first sc in the 2nd chain than every individual chain after that? I’m kind of confused with this wording. Help please?

Sharon Your Answers To Questions About Crochet Patterns For Beginners Baby

Sharon asks…

need help reading crochet pattern?

ok I get the abbreviations, but it still doesn’t make sense to me.
It says
Wavy stitch (which isn’t covered in the book)multiple of 13 sts +4; 1-row repeat
set up row: beg in second ch from hook, sc in second ch and in next ch;skip 1 ch,sc in next 5 ch*work 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 5 ch;repeat from * across, ending last rep at +, skip 1 ch, sc in last 2 ch turn.
Then it has instructions for row 1
Then says blanket

I just don’t understand. 13+4 is it 17 stitches? why doesn’t it say 17? Am I supposed to do instructions, setup row, row 1, and then blanket?
It’s a wavy baby blanket. It’s a book for beginners, just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m on bedrest, so I can’t go take classes or anything.
Thanks in advance for your help

Crochet Hat Patterns beginners hat cropped Your Answers To Questions About Crochet Patterns For Beginners Baby

admin answers:

It doesn’t just say 17 because Wavy Stitch is a stitch pattern that you can repeat as many times as you need. To get this particular pattern to repeat properly, you need to work it over a *multiple of 13* stitches plus an additional 4 stitches (so you would need to work it over 17, 30, 43, etc. Stitches), which is different from saying “multiples of 17″.

You start under the Blanket section, NOT the Wavy Stitch section (usually you start where the directions specifically tell you how many chains to make). When you get to the part that says to work in Wavy Stitch, then you refer to the Wavy Stitch section. They separate the stitch pattern from the actual directions to save space and avoid repeating the same thing over and over.
