Betty Your Questions About Crochet Poncho

Betty asks…

How much should I charge for a crocheted poncho, if I don’t have to pay for the yarn?

Somebody at work asked me to crochet her a poncho; she asked me how much I should charge her and I was not sure. Somebody else told me maybe I could just tell her its up to her since she is trustworthy. I do trust her, but if she still would like me to give her a price, what should I tell her?
She told me she would buy the yarn for me, so I am not paying for that.

admin answers:

It would depend on the pattern. If it’s a difficult pattern or one that’s time consuming (if it’s made of all sc, for example), I would charge more than $40. If it’s an easy pattern, probably $35 or so.

Just to give you some ideas, here is the list of ponchos on Etsy. Some of them aren’t ponchos, but wraps or caplets, but it should give you some ideas.

I’m trying to make one, but i don’t know if you start at the neckline or the bottom ,or if it’s crocheted in 2 separate pieces then attached, I’m really very confused right now lol

Can someone please tell me where to start, or send me an instructional video or webpage

The only trick is changing colors – when you do – work the stitch until just before you finish pulling through the LAST two loop, change colors and pull the new color through the last 2 loops and then continue with the new color. Snip off the old color – leaving about 4 – 5 inches and weave in the ends later.

GAUGE:

7 dc + 4 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Block pattern.
7 1/2 sc + 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).

admin answers:

I think the word you are looking for is “capelet”, meaning small cape. Since it’s a designer item, you’ll have to be creative and experienced if you want to copy it. How about if you use the bottom pattern of this one, all the way up, and just keep going, without additional decreasing, for the collar part?

Mandy Your Questions About Crochet Poncho

Mandy asks…

How to wear a crochet shawl?

I received a crochetted shawl-type garment for Christmas, but I’m unsure as to how to wear it. It is a one piece oblong shape, folded over at the top. One side is completely open, while the other is closed, with the exception of a smallish hole (more armhole size, not neckhole.) There is fringe at the bottom. It would not be symetrical if I wore it as a typical shawl/poncho, and would have the seem running up the front.

Any tips would be EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you!

Laura Your Questions About Crochet Poncho Patterns

Laura asks…

Where can I find a crochet pattern for an adult sized hooded poncho?

I have a friend who wants me to do one for him. I already have a pattern, but it’s very, how do I say, holy. There’s a lot of gaps in the pattern and neither him nor I want that. I would like something that has a nice pattern to it, but not alot of gaps in it. The one that I have is mostly v-stitches and they’re really “gappy”…lol. I don’t know how to describe it. I have a membership with Lion Brand and Bernat yarns and can’t find any hooded poncho patterns. Even if you have a great pattern for a nice poncho, and then a separate pattern for an adult sized hood, I could probably work with that. I am fairly experience at crocheting so don’t make it too hard. The easier it is, the quicker I’ll get it done. And seeing as it’s already February, I need it done asap.

I will also need to see a picture of one, so if you want, please email me at anonymoususer@rogers.com or post a link to the site where you got it from here.

Any suggestions welcome.

Also, if you know of any good free knitting and crocheting (particularly crocheting) pattern sites would be also welcomed. Thanks

Here’s a link with the classic granny square. I’ve made many variations, but this one is simple and the added chain stitch between reps help the square to lay even.

Robert asks…

I’m looking for a crochet pattern to make a half poncho?

i want it to look like a normal poncho from the front but instead of looking the same in the back i want it to be cut off. Like instead of two triangle stuck together, have it be a triangle and a trapezoid stuck together

Crochet Hat Patterns beginners hat cropped Your Questions About Crochet Poncho Patterns

admin answers:

Just do it as you have described. You don’t need to do the whole poncho… Just do the front. And then do the back in the shape that you want. You don’t need a pattern. Or if you have a pattern, follow the appropriate section as needed. You can mix various sections of different patterns to fit together and make something in the shape that you want.
